Additional Information: | This building originally housed the Schultz Bros. Variety Store, which was operated by the Schultz Bros. Unlike most buildings in the Downtown Historic District, this building was constructed during the mid-1900s. Prior to this, other buildings stood at this location, including one owned by S.B. French. French was a prominent figure in Menomonie's history. For example, he served on the library board, started a bank, and was a real estate agent and dealer. French's building once housed the post office and was destroyed in a fire in 1880. It is considered the first significant building lost to fire in Menomonie. |
