| Additional Information: | A LATE ITALIANATE DWELLING IDENTIFIED BY EAVE-LINE BRACKETS, A TWO STORY BAY WINDOW (ON THE EAST) AND PEAKED WINDOW MOLDINGS. The sleeping porches were added in 1905. THERE IS A WEST SIDE ADDITION. THE TWO STORY HOUSE HAS AN IRREGULAR PLAN CONFIGURATION AND A HIPPED ROOF WITH A DECK. THE BUILDING WAS FOUND TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION. The attached garage was constructed in 1980. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: STEPHEN H. TAYLOR, BORN IN HAZEL GREEN, WISCONSIN, WAS AN ATTORNEY IN LANCASTER FOR FIFTY-FOUR YEARS. DURING MOST OF THAT TIME, HE SERVED AS DIVORCE COUNSEL FOR GRANT COUNTY. (A). THE TAYLOR HOUSE IS PICTURED IN LANCASTER'S SOUVENIR. (B). TAX RECORDS SHOW THAT THIS HOUSE WAS BUILT IN 1890 |
