Additional Information:INTACT (IN 1983) EXCEPT FOR ALUMINUM WINDOWS.
A THREE STORY TOWER CAPPED BY A CONICAL ROOF, PROJECTING GABLES, AND A "WRAP AROUND" VERANDA HIGHLIGHT THIS FINE QUEEN ANNE RESIDENCE. IT WAS FOUND TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION. THE BULIDING HAS TWO AND A HALF STORIES, AN IRREGULAR PLAN CONFIGURATION AND AN IRREGULAR ROOF SHAPE. THE EXTERIOR IS COVERED IN CLAPBOARD, AND WOOD SHINGLES DECORATE THE TOWER AND GABLES. THE DATE OF CONSTRUCTION IS 1892 ACCORDING TO CONTEMPORARY NEWSPAPER ARTICLES.

ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENT:
LOCATED IN THE RESIDENTIAL AREA SOUTH OF THE COURTHOUSE, THE DR. J.H. REED HOUSE IS ONE OF LANCASTER'S FINEST EXAMPLE OF QUEEN ANNE ARCHITECTURE. CHARACTERISTICALLY, IRREGULAR MASSING AND VARIETY OF FORM DISTINGUISH THE CLAPBOARD AND SHINGLE SIDED HOME, WHICH, SINCE ITS CONSTRUCTION, HAS UNDERGONE LITTLE ALTERATION. SINCE FIRST SURVYED IN 1976, HOWEVER, THIS HOUSE HAS BEEN RESIDED IN VINYL.

HISTORICAL STATEMENT:
DR. J.H. REED, A PRACTICING DENTIST, WAS ALSO OWNER OF REED'S OPERA HOUSE, 219 W. MAPLE STREET, 8/5, CONSTRUCTED IN 1893.
