| Additional Information: | A.H. Johnson came to the United States from Norway in 1866. After making his way to the Menomonie area, he began working in a mill located in Downsville, Wisconsin. After an accident dismembered his left hand, he found work as a clerk with the Knapp, Stout & Co., Company. This work allowed him to build the Johnson Block, which became one of the largest general stores in northwest Wisconsin. Known as a good man to his employees and patrons, Johnson held many activities for his clerks, including picnics and softball games. |
