NOTES
Additional Information:ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENT: THIS BRICK T-SHAPED CHRUCH STRUCTRUE ON AN ELEVATED BASEMENT HAS A STEEPLY SLOPING ROOF AND POINTED ARCHED STAINED GLASS WINDOWS, BRICK APLIQUED PILASTERS PLACED BETWEEN EACH WINDOW MARCH DOWN THE FACADE OF THE SOUTH ELEVATION AND AN APPLIQUED BRICK CROSS ACCENTS THE STREET FACING GABLE. A ROW OF APPLIQUED BRICK FORMS A CONTINUOUS STRING COURSE THAT RUNS OVER THE TOP OF THE WINDOWS, ACROSS THE CENTER OF THE FACADE. A ROUGH SHINGLED ENTRANCE ADDITION HAS GREATLY ALTERED THE ENTRANCE TO THE CHURCH AS WELL AS THE VISUAL IMPACT OF THE CHURCH. A CONCRETE ENTRANCE RAMP HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED AT THE REAR OF THE CHURCH. IT HAS AN ELEVATED BASEMENT. ALTHOUGH THIS 20TH CENTURY VERNACULAR GOTHIC REVIVAL CHURCH IS IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY, THE ALTERATION OF THE CHURCH'S ENTRANCE DIMINISHES ITS ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE. THE CHURCH WAS MOVED AND BRICK VENEERED IN 1929. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: THIS BUILDING IS HISTORICALLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE RELIGIOUS DEVELOPMENT OF CUBA CITY. THE FIRST METHODIST CHURCH WAS AT MOUNT PLEASANT, ONE MILE SOUTH OF CUBA CITY. IT WAS BUILT IN THE 1870'S. IN 1884, THIS BUILDING WAS ERECTED ON THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF MAIN AND YUBA STREETS IN CUBA CITY. (C) IT WAS MOVED TO THE PRESENT SITE IN 1929. (B) THE FOUNDERS OF THE CHURCH WERE IN LARGE PART ENGLISH EMIGRANTS FROM YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND. (C)
