Additional Information:THE BLAINE THEATRE AND COMMUNITY BUILDING IS A TWO STORY BRICK STRUCTURE, BASICALLY L SHAPED IN PLAN. A MODERNE INFLUENCE IS EVIDENT IN THE SIMPLE MASSING, STREAMLINED FORMS AND SURFACE TREATMENT, PARTICULARLY THE SHALLOW LAYERING OF PILASTERS.

THE COMMUNITY BUILDING WAS DESIGNED BY THE ARCHITECTURAL FIRM OF NERLINGER AND DURRANT (A). THE CONTRACTOR FOR THE CONSTRUCTION WAS L.S. WAGNER AND SON. FUNDING WAS PROVIDED, IN PART, BY THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY RELIEF ADMINISTRATION (FERA), WHICH SUCCEEDED THE CIVIL WORKS ADMINISTRATION (CWA-CEASED IN MARCH 1934); OVERSEEING THE PROJECT WAS JOHN F. CARROLL, THE FEDERAL SUPERVISOR. (C) THE BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED DURING THE YEARS 1934 AND 1935.

DEDICATION OF THE THEATRE OCCURRED IN DECEMBER OF 1934, THE COMMUNITY BUILDING WAS DEDICATED IN JANUARY OF 1935. (D) THE BUILDING WAS NAMED IN HONOR OF JOHN BLAINE, FORMER GOVERNOR, SENATOR AND PROGRESSIVE ALLY OF ROBERT LAFOLLETTE.
