Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Massive structure with 100' nine-story tall head house dominating the area skyline. This rectilinear structure was built in 1917 and has six semi-circular salients on both the east and west facades. A later six-story tall ten elevator group was built to the west in 1928 and a connecting building added in 1948. Fox River Valley Industrial Survey The Green Bay and Western Railroad constructed a large concrete set of grain silos in 1917. In 1928, the Strid Grain Company took over management of the ten elevators, expanding the facility. The property transferred to the Alart and McGuire Company in 1948. The elevators are the largest remaining example of their kind in Green Bay, which historically served as a significant hub for food transportation, packaging, and distribution. They are also an early example of reinforced concrete silo construction The Green Bay and Western Railroad Grain Elevator is significant under Criterion A: History in the area of Industry for its role in the Green Bay grain and food industry.
