NOTES
Additional Information:2012 - Appearance unchanged BEHNKE WAS THE BUILDER AND EACH ROOM HAS A DIFFERENT TYPE OF WOODWORK IN IT. "Charles F. Behnke, a carpenter, and his wife Amanda applied for a building permit in 1924. By 1935, he was listed as president and treasurer of Behnke General Contractors. The Behnke family name is still associated with the building trades. Behnke died in 1949 at the age of seventy-eight. In 1944 Judge Rudolph Mudroch, a Milwaukee Country Probate Judge, and his wife Hattie moved into the house. Mudroch had a long and distinguished career both as an attorney for fifty years and as a probate judge for thirty-two of those years. Born in 1895, Mudroch moved to Milwaukee in 194. He attended Milwaukee County School of Agriculture and Domestic Economy, but, lacking funds to buy a farm, he pursued a law career at Marquette University. He was admitted to the bar in 1915. He retired in 1967, the oldest sitting judge in Milwaukee County at age seventy-three. The architect for the house was George Zagel. The building permit lists the cost of construction for the house at $9,400. A brick-veneered garage costing $800 was built at the same time as the house and included a gas pump. The house has a massive roof with a large front gable. The bricked first story features played corners on the house and porch. The second story half-timber and stucco bay has wide bargeboards on the eaves. This treatment is also seen on the gable above the front porch."
