Additional Information: | 2005- Section 2 is a relatively large section which is irregular in shape, with a triangular point as one enters the cemetery. The front portion of Section 2 was set aside for military burials. In the portion between the split road, there is a slightly-larger-than-life-size cast zinc sculpture of a Civil War union soldier. The monument commemorates the Union Veterans from 1861 to 1865, proclaiming "may their deeds of valor forever inspire love of liberty and country." The statue was erected by the Wm. Evans Women's Relief Corps No. 7 of Menomonie, Wisconsin in 1901 in honor of the war dead from the Civil War and Spanish-American War. A cannon ball sits at the base of the statue. Several rows of white marble military grave stones, known as the G.A.R. lots, stand behind the statue. |
