| Additional Information: | The Brown residence, one and a half stories in height, is characterized by shingle covered gables, the most prominent of which is supported by a rounded projection containing a paired bay. The lower half of the structure is clapboard sided and features an enclosed entrance porch. Chancellor L. Brown was listed in the 1882 directory as the foreman carpenter of the Phoenix Manufacturing Company. Two years later a large advertisement in the directory contained the following information: C.L. Brown, Practical Stair Builder, Fine Joiner Work a Specialty. In 1888 he was listed as an architect and in 1890 another advertisement described Brown as an architect and building superintendent with fine residences a specialty. He is listed in the directories until 1912. Unfortunately, despite the advertisements, no reference to Brown's work was found. |
