NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Francis Woodward erected this residence in 1871. Located on a large corner lot, the stone sided structure (the building is shown as a frame dwelling - it was probably clapboard - on the 1897 Sanborn-Perris Map) is characterized by steeply pitched gables ornamented by bargeboards, a two story bay window, and a massive chimney on the north facade. A green house was located at the rear of the house according to the 1897 map.

A native of Ithaca, New York, Francis W. Wodoward (1830-1908) moved to is Eau Claire in 1869 and in 1872 organized the First National bank of Eau Claire. The financial institution had the following officers: F.W. Woodward, president; and George T. Thompson, cashier. In 1878 the bank was organized as the Bank of Eau Claire, which retained the same officers. Woodward retired as bank president in 1885, and later managed a 5,500 acre farm at Warren, Minnesota.
