Additional Information: | The Grace Lutheran Church, erected in 1915, is a Gothic structure characterized by a single tower at the southeast corner of the building. Originally a smaller tower was also featured but the addition at the east end of the church has covered that element. The tower contains paired lancet windows and on the ground level a large lancet opening that was at one time a main entrance to the church. Lancet windows are also featured on the side wall and gabled transept. An addition at the west end is in keeping with the original structure and is highlighted by rectangular bays with prominent ston elintels. Stone is used, too, to accent the windows on the 1915 structure and the upper portion of the tower. A large educational building is adjacent to the north side of the church. In 1910, 137 members of the First Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Avenue, 2L/22, withdrew to form a separate congregation which conducted its services in the English language. Professor C.M. Weswig of United Church Seminary organized this group that became Grace Lutheran Church (C). 1997-Brick school additions 1950 and 1972. |
