Additional Information: | The former Second Presbyterian Church is a simple clapboard structure distinguished by a gable roof and square entrance tower. The small rooms flanking the tower appear to be later additions (B). The Second Presbyterian Church was organized in 1890 by the First Presbyterian Church. It was dissolved in 1899 but the structure, now called the Fay Street Chapel, continued to be used as a mission of the first Presbyterian Church until the North Presbyterian Church was organized in 1916 (see 516 Birch St., 4L/21). The Fay Street Chapel served the North congregation until 1923, when the Birch Street edifice was constructed (A). |
