Additional Information: | A classically inspired commercial building located on the southeast corner of S. Barstow and Main Streets. The structure features a metal entablature and paired bays (except for the three part opening on the main facade) accented by stone lintels and sills. On the lower facade round arched windows (some of these have been enclosed) line the north elevation. The original storefront area has been substantially altered. The Telegram Publishing Company constructed and occupied this building from 1894 to 1913. The company, organized in 1895, a year following the establishment of the morning newspaper, the Eau Claire Telegram, was incorporated by W.P. Welch, C.W. Fiske, and G.A. Barry. In 1912 the Eau Claire Press Company took control of both the Telegram Publishing Company and the Leader Publishing Company which printed the Eau Claire Leader. Both publications were continued under this new firm, using the same offices and printing machinery (A). |
