Additional Information: | Extant as of 1997. Constructed of brick, this two story commercial building is characterized by decorative brickwork patterns at the cornice line (identical patterns are found on the neighboring building, 304 N. Barstow, 20/30) and on the second floor, by ten segmental arch bays accented by window caps. The bays are arranged 3-1-3-3 and correspond to the store areas and entrance (to the second story) on the ground floor. This lower area has been significantly altered. Some second story windows boarded up. In 1883 a clothing store, a drug store, and a saloon occupied the lower floor of this structure. The Eau Claire Hospital was listed as the second floor tenant. The occupants remained the same until 1889 when furnished rooms were noted on the upper floor. By 1897 the lower level had changed, with a store, printing establishment, and vacant story area being listed. In 1908, Sorlie and Buchholz, grocers, were the occupants and in 1931, two stores and shop were the tenants (B,C). |
