NOTES
Additional Information:TO BE DEMOLISHED. A two story corner commercial structure, constructed of brick. decorative brickwork patterns characterize the cornice area, while on the second floor, the bays, which have been bricked in, are emphasized by brick window hoods. Originally, the bays were spaced 3 and 2, but two additional bays were squeezed in ats ome point. An excellent photo of the building is included in Eau Vlaire of Today (B). On the first floor the store front area has been totally altered.

A hardware and a liquor store occupied the lower floor of the structure in 1883. On the second floor was the lodge of the Catholic Knights of America. The same tenants were present in 1885, while in 1889 a clothing, boots, and shoes establishment was located on the first floor. In the basement was a saloon and on the second floor was Central Hall. A store and a lodge are listed in 1897 (C). In Eau Claire of Today, a 1904 promotional publication, the firm of A.H. Hollen, located at this address, is one of several businesses featured. It is described as "one of the most successful and up-to-date exponents of the clothing and shoe trade in this city, as well as the oldest, having been established in 1876 by Mr. Hollen..." The article further stated that "Mr. Hollen is a Norwegian and is possessed of exceptional business ability and enterprise, which he employs to good advantage." (B).
