Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. The building has a concrete foundation, rectangular floor plan, and cream colored brick exterior walls. It is 1 1/12 stories high with a saw tooth roof which has 6 peaks. There are glass panels on the north side of the roof. Both the exterior and the interior are intact and in good condition. The Eagle Manuf. Co. was originally founded by Richard Milller in 1886. It was at a location at John St. Bridge near the river. The company manufactured the first swivel hay carrier which Mr. Miller invented. In 1886 the company moved to a site east of where the Fox River Paper Company is now (06/1981) located. Hay tools were the chief products. The company became incorporated in 1888 under the name eagle Manufacturing Company, when Edward Sailerlich purchased the interest of John Kanuose, a major share holder. The officers of this company were Richard Miller, president; Edward Sailberlish, vice-president; Wiliam Polifka, secretary and treasurer. Mr. Miller, founder of the company, sold out his interests to his associates in 1899 and thereupon organized the Appleton Hay Tool company. Eagle Manufacturing continued to manufacture hay cutters until 190, when it began making traction engines. They outgrew their quarters and moved to its present location on Winnebago Street in 1904. The plant now (06/1981) occupies about 15 lots of ground space and employs, when in full operation, about 120 people. The famous tractors were used by farmers throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. In the early 1950s Eagle Mfg. went out of business and the structure lay dormant until I'Bahcall Company bought it for a warehouse. The Eagle Supply and Plastic Real Estate Co. bought the structure in approximately 1973. There is no connection business wise for the similarity in names, it is for nostalgic purposes only. |
