| Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. RELATED BUILDINGS: attached to OU 46/3,4; OU 46/5. This property is a well-preserved and remarkably complete Late Neo-Gothic Revival style church complex comprising an imposing stone veneered church, a matching former convent and rectory and an earlier school building. The 1939 church is an excellent example of the stripped modern Gothic style of the 1930s with its reliance on bold massing, planar wall treatments, the juxtaposition of contrasting geometric forms and the attenuation of abstracted Gothic elements to create a monumental composition enlivened with dramatic shadow effects. The stark convent and the sprawling rectory with their massive tile roofs are fine complementary structures. The school is out of character with the complex and has been so altered it is also a non-contributing structure. |
