Additional Information: | Garage also on property. Owned by Lawrence University. This structure contributes to the significance of the east College Avenue residential Historic District under Criterion C as a restorable example of a picturesque Queen Anne style house. Unfortunately this once fine house has been stripped of its original porch and clad in asbestos tile siding, but its distinctive massing contributes to the maintenance of the Victorian streetscape along College Avenue. 2005-This house was last surveyed in 1991 and no visible exterior changes have been made to the home since that date. The assessor's record ascribes a date of 1896 to the home; howewer, it does appear on the 1891 SAnborn map; hence the circa 1891 date of construction. A different house (in form and massing) appears to have been located on this parcel in 1886. In 1891-92, the original owner Lorenzo S. Knox was working as a manager in the shipping room of the Union Toy Company. By 1896-97, he is noted as a carpenter. |
