Additional Information: | The Stoddard H. Martin house was built between 1845 and 1846. [A, B, C]. It is one of the oldest known frame houses in Milwaukee. Martin was a contractor and politician from Vermont. 1973: "This unpretentious frame house is the oldest building of any kind so far discovered on Milwaukee's near south side. The original owner, a native of Vermont, was one of the early settlers of Walker's Point and came to be well-known as a contractor (he was a carpenter by profession) and politician (he served terms as alderman and assemblyman). Alterations and Additions (as of 1973): The present siding is not original. What other changes may have been made in the fabric has not been ascertained. It is likely that Martin designed and built the house." |
