Additional Information: | 1973: "This school is one of a set of buildings owned by Holy Trinity Parish. It was founded by members of Holy Trinity in 1850; classes were held in various neighborhood buildings until the brick schoolhouse was completed in 1867. The oldest school building, public or private, in Milwaukee today is being used by the Bruce-Guadalupe School, a bilingual community school. It is presently being recorded for the Historic American Buildings Survey archives in the Library of Congress. The exterior has not been altered other than the addition of a wood frame walkway at the rear of the school adjoining the church rectory. Two enclosed doorways have been added at the basement level, one on the front of the school and one at the rear. The interior has been update with respect to heating and plumbing; the basement level has been modernized extensively to provide an adequate kitchen and meeting room." |
