NOTES
Additional Information:PAIRED BRACKETS UNDER WOOD CORNICE. CAST IRON BAKERY FRONT (Left) PROBABLY ORIGINAL. TROPHY ROOM FRONT COVERED IN CARARRA GLASS.

This building was built in two stages; the left (north) half was built in 1866 and the right (south) half was built in1876. Datestones for each are placed on the main facades and both were built for James. O. Eaton, one of Lodi's pioneer merchants. The upper story of the 1876 portion contains a large room that was used as the Lodi Opera House for many years and which was still in a reasonably intact state as of 1999. Other uses for the upper stories included housing the lodge rooms for the Masonic Lodge and other fraternal organizations, and professional offices such as the one of Dr. Whitelaw in the 1920s.

The first story stores housed a variety of businesses, including for some years the clothing store of E.E. Seville.
