These raceways feature irregular shaped plan configurations, concrete foundations and concrete walls. Description of Complex: The Osceola State Fish Hatchery is located two miles nrotheast of Osceola, off of State Highway 35, in Polk County. This fish hatchery is one of the Bureau of Fisheries Management's facilities that is in exceptional condition. The facility is a complex of buildings including the fish hatchery building (4/3, 1934), a residence (4/6, 1934), and an assortment of storage buildings (4/4, 5, 7, 8, constructed between 1894 and 1935). The fish hatchery is a very well maintained newport yellow building constructed with clapboard siding, white wood trim and a gambrel roof. The storage/garage building is constructed of similar materials that are often seen in ranger station construction, namely rock-faced concrete block and white wood trim material. One of the smaller storage buildings, built in 1894, is an interesting field stone structure with white wood trim material. The other storage buildings are small, newport yellow, wood frame structures. They are all in good condtion. The residence is also in good condition, although it has been re-sided with aluminum/vinyl siding. The entire complex has continuity between buildings and is in excellent condition, thus the Osceola State Fish Hatchery has been considered a potential Historic District. |
