AMTRAK STOP. INTERIOR BENCHES ARE FROM THE 1930S OR 1940S. ORIGINALLY HAD A TILE ROOF. Built as a replacement for the 1871 depot, which is still located nearby at ca.359 N. Dickason Blvd. This is a fine example of a Craftsman style-influenced railroad depot clad in concrete and it has a date plaque located on the foundation wall.

"This passenger depot was built in 1906 and the original depot, 100 yards to the west, became the freight depot. Originally there were two waiting rooms. One was designated a smoking (therefore men's) waiting room and the other was a non-smoking (therefore women's) waiting room.

Although small in scale, the Columbus train station exhibits some grand Italian Renaissance details. The projecting pavilion, with pediment and recessed entry porches behind round archways, displays the symmetry and order of the style. The original roof was tile, which would have been typical of the style. The building sits on a battered stone base. The wall surface above is rusticated concrete, with recessed joints creating formal patterns. A cove molding, or cavetto, tops the wall and surrounds the pediment. Inside, the benches are late 1930s or '40s art deco with curved fronts and stylized arrows of contrasting wood at the ends." Columbus Historic Architecture Tours, undated.
