Commercial red brick building with a four window facade, and triangular pediment shaped flat stone window heads with block ends on upper story. Completely altered store front. 1996- "This commercial vernacular building rises two stories in height and is constructed of brick. Notable details are restricted to the La Crosse Street facade's second story, masonry window hoods and the central, semi-circular, masonry inset with the inscriptions "G.F.S." and "1891." Remaining fenestration at the second level has plain heads and sills. The entire entrance facade has been altered with a modern storefront including vertical board siding, new windows and lustron square siding; recessed entries have modem doors." - "La Crosse North/South Transportation Corridor", WisDOT ID #5991-04-00, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd. (1996). 2016 UPDATE - BUILDING LOOKS SUBSTANTIALLY THE SAME AS WHEN SURVEYED IN 1996, NOW CHUCK'S BAR 2024: Not resurveyed for the STH 35 Corridor Study. Building has an altered storefront level and replacement windows. Currently occupied by Chucks (bar). |
