Additional Information: | WIDE EAVES W/BRACKETS, IONIC COLUMNS ON PORCH. LOUIS SULLIVAN STAYED HERE WHILE WORK WAS PROGRESSING ON THE FARMERS & MERCHANTS UNION BANK. The clapboard-clad rear ell of this house was built in 1869 as a house by A. D. Bond, who then sold it to Lester R. Rockwell. Rockwell built the larger clapboard-clad front block ca.1874. Subsequent owners were Dr. B. F. Bellack, banker J. R. Wheeler, Elton Morrison, and Dr. A. J. Frederick. Locals recall that President Taft spoke from the front balcony of the house. |
