NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' titled "Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad Depots Complex" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History.

WAS ORIGINALLY USED FOR FREIGHT AND PASSENGER SERVICE UNTIL THE PASSENGER DEPOT WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1907. This Italianate style-influenced Astylistic Utilitarian design depot replaced the original one, built in 1864, which was located in a different location south of Park Ave. near the old Kurth Brewery. The design of the 1871 depot was a standard type for the Milwaukee & St. Paul RR (see also the Stoughton, WI Depot of 1885) and it was used as a combined passenger and freight depot until the new Columbus passenger depot was built in 1907 just to the south. The 1871 depot was afterwards used as a lumber yard workplace and storage building by the Caldwelll Lumber Co., and then by the Vita-Plus Corp. as a warehouse.
