NOTES
Additional Information:Wenzel Seyk was a prominent manufacturer, merchant and dealer in grain and fule in Kewaunee for more than four decades. He was born in Bohemia (Sept. 28, 1840) and came to the United States with his parents in 1854. The Seyks lived in Milwaukee before relocating to Kewaunee in 1864. Wenzel entered a partnership with his father in a merchant tailoring business which was located on Ellis Street and was one of the leading clothing stores in the city until it was leveled during the great fire of 1898. Wenzel built his first floor mill in 1870 and eventually owned mills in West Kewaunee, Tisch Mills, Maplewood and Kewaunee. "Seyk's Best" flour became known throughout the country. Wenzel Seyk served as mayor of Kewaunee, Kewaunee County treasurer and president of the Business Men's Association. Wenzel served as president of S. Seyk Co. until his death in 1907 when his son Edward took over the company.
