Additional Information: | John B. Kehl was a prominent businessman in 19th century Chippewa Falls. In the spring of 1874 he helped construct the Glen Flour Mills along Duncan Creek. Between 1876 and 1878 he managed the mill for A.E. Pound and Company. In 1879 he took over ownership of the mills, substantially expanding their capacity in 1885. Kehl was also part owner of a planning mill and roller rink, the officer of the Trust National Bank, and an original board member of the Progressive League, an association created to promote Chippewa Falls economic development. Nevertheless, because of the breadth and success of his business and community activities, and because he was actively engaged in the "primary processing" industries which gave Chippewa Falls its start, this property is of significant local interest. |
