NOTES
Additional Information:A bracketed cornice beneath a parapet at the tope of the east and north elevations; a line of blind arches beneath the east cornice and a band of corbeled brck below the north cornice; flat stone window lintels; corner entrance bay (tower roof has been removed) store fronts have been completely altered from the original for contemporary use. Brick surface broken vertically by full length pilasters with bracketed ends.

The site of the former Continental Clothing Store from the beginning of the 20th century, the vaguely Classical Revival structure is still a prominent, important commercial structure contributing to the 19th century sppearance of fourth Street, in spite of the alteration of the original design and the removal of architectural details.

This is the original Doerflinger Building. It was built by William Doerfliger to house his first dry goods store as a sole proprietor. In 1888, Doerflinger was in partnership with edward Bosshard running the Park store at 314-316 South Front Street. In 1890 Doerflinger runs a sole proprietorship dry goods store at 200 South Fourth. Byu 1893-94 Doerflinger has moved his store to 109-13 South Fourth Street and Volz bros and Reuter run a clothing store out of this building. Both Volz brothers (Bernard and John) had clerked for Mons Anderson and Bernard volz was a neighbor of Doerflingers, living at 624 south 7th Street (Doerflinger lived at 624 South 7th Street).
