Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property named 'Bowler Ranger Station'. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. The Bowler Ranger Station's wood beam bridge and retaining wall were built circa 1939. The bridge/retaining wall features an irregular shaped plan configuration, walls made of cut stone and logs, and a trim made of wood. The retaining walls run along the bank of the creek. Decorative water aggitation is also present. The bridge/retaining wall is in excellent condition. Other structures related to this bridge include the pump house, ranger station, and the retaining wall. (See Map Codes 6/16, 6/18, 6/19). 2023: The footbridge was constructed c. 1937. It spans the Embarrass River in two parts that connect at a concrete pad on the center island. The bridge is decked with half-round wood beams and has simple wood posts and railings. The bridge appears largely intact, although sections of the railings are missing. It is part of the Bowler Ranger Station. Associated resources include the station (AHI #22169), pumphouse (AHI #22170), and retaining walls (AHI #32150 and 32152). wood bridge |
