NOTES
Additional Information:Constructed of cut stone blocks straight, flat wooden widow lintels; mortar protrudes from joints; two over two windows gable door hood over centrally located entrance; five bay semmetrical facade; broad roof overhang. Low flat hip roof; frame add. at rear.

Constructed c. 1855-1860 of cut stone block in a simple vernacular design for George Zeisler, who became proprietor of the Plank Road Brewery, as a residence where he lived until 1870, the stone house is an important structure because it is one of a very few representatives of stone construction remaining in the area.

George Zeisler arrived in La Crosse in 1853. After moving into this house he began producing alcholic beverages, beer and whiskey. He went into the brewing business in a large way after 1866 when he established the Plank Road Brewery. The Plank Road Brewery was sold to John Gund in 1902.
