Built in 1891, the S. Schaefer Block was designed in the Queen Anne style by John Paulu. [A, B]. The structure was damaged by fire on June 10, 1993.

1973: "A good example of late 19th century architecture, the building is especially well-preserved on the exterior. The original occupants included Simon Schaefer's saloon, boarding house, and residence, together with the pharmacy and apartment of William T. Lochemes.

Alterations and Additions (as of 1973):
In 1901 an addition was constructed at the rear of the building, and according to the permits there have been minor changes mode on the interior."
