Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 2014- Appearance unchanged. 2012- The c.1865 Virgin Creek Elementary School is a rectangular plan, one-story, front gable building located at the corner of Town Hall Road and US Highway 45. The walls are clad in clapboard, and the moderately pitched gable roof is covered in asphalt shingles. Fenestration is regular; the side (east and west) elevations each feature three evenly spaced window openings, while the front (south) facade has two window openings flanking a slightly off-center entrance. Window openings contain one-over-one, wood, double-hung sash behind vinyl storms. The entrance is sheltered by a small gabled overhang supported by knee braces, and contains a modern glazed door. A sign that reads “Auburn Town Hall” is located in the gable end. Research indicates that the property originally functioned as the Virgin Creek School, but later served as a school and the Auburn Town Hall. |
