Additional Information: | Description: A mansard roof "hides" the upper floor of this frame Second Empire house. Gabled dormers project from the roof. The original exterior siding remains intact although an entrance porch with a flat roof is in need of repair. Most of the windows are double hung. History: 1897 county directories list Gustav Fleck as carpenter/contractor with residence also at this building. He built the building in the 1880s and live in it until 1903. George Kispert, superintendent and 25-year employee of the Outagamie Paper Mill, lived here with his family from 1904-1911. George's father, Philip, was one of the early pioneers of Outagamie County, a miller by occupation. George Kispert, Jr. started his own business at age 19, becoming proprietor of a prosperous plumbing and steamfitting establishment in Kaukauna. Resident from 1917-1919, Carl Hoehne was manager of Hoehne Machine Works, Kaukauna. Julius J. Marten, owner of J.J. Marten's Department Store, owned it from 1946-1955, continuing the list of independent businessmen to have owned this structure. |
