Located on the Illinois Central Railroad line from Freeport, Illinois to Madison, Wisconsin, is this 1218 foot tunnel. It was built of stone in 1888 and is a representative example of late 19th century tunnel construction. Its construction removed the last major obstable on the route to Madison. |
