NOTES
Additional Information: THIS ONE-STORY RESIDENCE IS DESIGNED WITH A RECTANGULAR-SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION, A LIMESTONE EXTERIOR (WITH A COURSED ASHLAR FACADE AND COURSED RUBBLE WALLS) AND A GABLE ROOF. ALSO PRESENT IN THE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN ARE FRAME WINDOW SURROUNDS, STONE SILLS AND A SALTBOX SHAPE. A GABLED AND BRACKETED DOOR HOOD SHELTERS THE FRONT ENTRANCE. THE EDYVEAN HOUSE (SEE BIB. REF. B), AS IT WAS KNOWN HISTORICALLY, WAS BUILT IN C. 1850 AND IS PRESENTLY IN GOOD CONDITION. (SEE BIB. REF. A). ARCHITECTURAL/ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE: CONSTRUCTED IN C. 1850, THE EDMUND EDYVEAN HOUSE REPRESENTS A METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION AND THUS IS AN ARCHITECTURALLY SIGNIFICANCT STRUCTURE. THE SIMPLY DESIGNED "MINER'S COTTAGE," ONE OF FOUR SIMILAR STONE DWELLINGS ON N. MAIN STREET (SEE BELOW), TESTIFIES TO THE SKILL OF LOCAL MASONS, MANY OF THEM OF CORNISH BACKGROUND, WHO CONSTRUCTED BOTH PUBLIC BUILDINGS AND RESIDENCES IN DODGEVILLE. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: AT THIS TIME NOTHING IS KNOWN ABOUT EDMOND EDYVEAN. NOTE: THE OTHER, SIMILAR COTTAGES, WHICH ARE ALSO RECOMMENDED FOR NOMINATION, ARE LOCATED AT 610 N. MAIN STREET, 47/29; 614 N. MAIN STREET, 47/30; AND 801 N. MAIN STREET, 48/3.
