Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. Addition constructed in 1849 and the building was remodeled in 1883. After Lyman ceased operations, E.T. Bond owned the building and donated it to the trustees of Lawrence College. George Spratt used the building for rake atorage and for a time, the post office operated here. Housed the Rex Candy Shop in 1915. One of the oldest buildings west of the river. Was part of a railroad depot once, then was Robbins groceries in 1883 when George Robbins bought the building from Lawrence College. The front of the building was extended 18' at this time to make it even with other buildings on the street. John Bryant opened a photographic gallery over the store in 1897. Other occupants were Fesslers, then Wuestenhagen's. Buehler Furniture has been in the building since 1975. Previously surveyed in 1994. |
