Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. Chicago and North Western Depot is oldest depot in Wausau and one of two buildings remaining on Clarke Island.

"Train service to sawmills here on Clarke Island began in 1880 with the Milwaukee Lake Shore and Western Railroad. In 1892, the Chicago & North Western railroad acquired the line, and built this depot, serving passengers until the 1950s, Chinese food now. The brick building has a double-pitched hip roof with canopied extensions and exposed rafters." City in the Pinery, A Guide to Wausau's Historic Architecture, The City of Wausau, 1984.
