Previously surveyed in 1977.

The house was probably built for the Mathew Thiel family. Mathew Thiel emigrated from Germany, settling in the vicinity of St. John in 1861. The farm remained in the Thiel family until 1960, when Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thiel (no relation) acquired it.
