NOTES
Additional Information:ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENT: THIS CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH IS CONSTRUCTED OF RED BRICK AND RESTS ON A STONE FOUNDATION. STYLISTICALLY IT IS SIMILAR TO THE RICHARDSONIAN ROMANESQUE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHRUCH (110 CHURCH AVE.), HOWEVER, DETAILS ARE THINNER AND LESS IMPRESSIVE. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ORIGINAL STEEPLE WITH A SMALL SCALE SPIRE APPPEARS SOMEWHAT INCONGRUOUS. THE ENTRANCE HAS ALSO BEEN ALTERED. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: THIS CONGREGATION WAS FIRST ORGANIZED AS THE ZION WELSH CHURCH IN DECEMBER 1849. ENGLISH WAS SUBSTITUTED FOR WELSH IN 1888. THE CURRENT BUILDING IS THE THIRD FOR THIS CHURCH WHICH HAS BEEN ON THIS SITE SINCE 1856. (B) THIS CONGREGATION WAS LONG RECOGNIZED AS THE CENTER OF THE WELSH COMMUNITY IN OSHKOSH.
