Additional Information: | This recently constructed one-story office building is a painted concrete block building characterized by double rectangular windows on the first floor and the basement of the south elevation. Metal and glass service doors are located on the Water Street facade and at the rear of the south elevation fronting on Main Street. This small office building was constructed in 1958 on the site of the historic brick building, the M.A. Thayer and Co. Savings Bank. Constructed in 1869, the old brick building, formerly on the site and demolished c. 1958, housed the Thayer Bank until until 1880 when the building was used by the American Express Office. The present building originally was used as the Mannis and Harris Clinic. The Mannis-Harris Clinic Building does not meet the criteria of the NRHP for architectural significance because it is of contemporary design and less than 50 years old. As a result, this building does not contribute to the historic character of the proposed Water Street Commercial Historic District. Because of this property's recent construction, it does not meet the criteria for historical significance and does not fall into the exception for properties constructed during the 50 year non-historic period. |
