NOTES
Additional Information:The Union National Bank and Trust Company building was constructed in 1972. In 1969, the Farmers National Bank merged with Monroe County Bank to become the Union National Bank and Trust Co. Thereafter they moved to their present location on the northeast corner of West Oak and Court Streets - the former location of the second Hotel Warner/Sidney. The second Warner House was built by J.D. Condit on the northeast corner of Court and West Oak Street in 1879 - the site of this building. The 1879 hotel was larger than the previous building and had approximately 50 rooms. By the twentieth century, the Warner House became known as the Hotel Sidney. The Hotel Sidney burned down in 1968. Because of this property's recent construction, it does not meet the criteria for historical significance and does not fall into the exception for properties constructed during the 50 year non-historic period. This contemporary one-story bank building is characterized by a stone veneer front featuring a band of narrow windows divided vertically and a recessed entrance off-set to the east end of the facade. A drive-in banking facility is located at the rear of the building. This building was built for the Union Bank and Trust Company. It was constructed in 1972, replacing the historic Sidney Hotel, earlier known as the Warner Hotel, that was destroyed by fire in 1968. The addition was constructed in 1979. The Union National Bank and Trust Building does not meet the criteria for architectural significance because it is of modern construction and less than 50 years old. As a result, this building does not contribute to the historic character of the Water Street Historic District.
