It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. BUILDING WAS MOVED TO near Blanchardville and reconstructed on the Scott and Marla Lind farm IN 1994 FROM ITS ORIGINAL LOCATION AT 1105 KING ST. IN LACROSSE. MAP CODE OF THE ORIGINAL LOCATION WAS 3/6 ON THE LACROSSE DOT MAP. PORCH HAS BEEN CHANGED. ACCORDING TO THE 6/23/1990 LACROSSE TRIBUNE THIS IS THE WILLIAM SAWYER HOUSE AND WAS BUILT IN 1891. Two-story gable roofed projects at front and rear; two-story round tower of front west corner; three-sided two-story west bay window; east and west gable roofed dormers; three-sided porch with rounded corners, short Tuscan columns on wooden bases and pediment over the porch entrance. Porte cochere on east side supported by Tuscan columns; hip roofed carriage house with small cupola on the east side of the house. Once occupied by Mrs. Sutor, the daughter of the lumberman Albert Pettibone, the Sutor House is a significant example of the later turn of the century Neo-classical influenced Queen Anne style, complete with porte cochere and carriage house. Sutor moved into this house between 1900 and 1901, suggesting that the house was built c. 1900. Sutor is listed at 303 West Avenue North in 1900. He was secretary and treasurer of the Gateway City Lumber Col; Secretary-treasurer of the La Crosse Mississippi River Towing Co; agent for the Diamond Jo Line of Steamers; and agent for the White Breast Fuel Co. of Illinois (B). 2017 UPDATE - NOT EXTANT |
