Additional Information: | MOVED FROM OLD COURTHOUSE SITE TO PRESENT LOCATION AFTER THE NEW COURTHOUSE WAS CONSTRUCTED (1954). FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE THE SOS! FILES AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART IN WASHINGTON, D.C. PHOTOS 37/0-5 ARE FILED WITH THE SOS! NEGATIVES. THE LYSANDER CUTLER POST PF THE GAR WAS ORGANIZED IN WAUSAU IN 1882. THE MONUMENT WAS DESIGNED AND EXECUTED BY ALEXANDER ROBERTSON IN 1886. "Civil War veterans formed the Lysander Cutler Post of the Grand Army of the Republic in 1882. In 1886, the 22-foot-high staute of a Union soldier was cut from Marathon County granite and placed on the courthouse square. It was moved to the present Marathon County Courthouse grounds in 1955."
