NOTES
Additional Information:1978: FRAME ADDITION ON REAR

2017: Addition to rear consists of vinyl and vertical board siding. Windows, which appear to have been replaced as of 1978, have been replaced again. The transom visible in the 1978 photo has been removed as a result of a new door and framing.

2017- "This farm property includes a fieldstone-constructed house, a metal-sheathed barn on a concrete foundation and a partial silo (not surveyed; however, a photo is included in this report), as well as a frame garage and pole shed (also not surveyed). Regarding the house, it is comprised of a one-and-one-half, side-gabled and fieldstone-constructed block (oriented to the south), a two-story frame addition to the rear (north) and a one-story wing (former summer kitchen) to the west. The primary (south) elevation includes a central door and two sash windows to either side and modest stone corner quoining is evident. The door’s original transom and sidelights have been covered over by the installation of a new door and windows are also replacements. The rear enclosed porch of the rear wing is sheathed with vertical board, while the two-story portion is sheathed with vinyl. Sheathing of the west wing appears to be board.

This house was built circa 1855 by Jacob Faust Sr. Faust was born in Gernsheim, Hessen, Germany, and immigrated to the United States in 1854. Shortly thereafter he purchased 80 acres in the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County and built the subject house. Faust’s first wife, Elizabeth (whom he wed in 1855), died circa 1860 and, the following year, he wed Conzessa Faust. They had eight children together and Jacob died in 1877. Conzessa remained on the family farm, with her son Jacob and his wife Anna, until her death in 1920. To date, the property remains in the Faust family."

Bibliographic References:Map of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin (Winneconne, WI: E.M. Harney, 1872); Atlas of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin (Sheboygan, WI: Jerry Donohue Engineering Co., 1920); Information regarding Jacob and Conzessa Faust can be found in the U.S., Find A Grave Index, 1600s-Current, as well as from the U.S. Federal Census, 1860-1920, both of which are available online at www.Ancestry.com, Accessed January 2018. Note that biographical info cites that Jacob Sr. was first married to Barbara Brown. However, also married that day (per marriage records) was Margaret Underwood and it is the 1860 census that identifies Jacob Faust and Margaret as residing in the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County. Current ownership information identifies Melvin Faust as the owner.
