Additional Information: | TURRET ON CNR. FISH SCALE SHINGLES IN GABLE AND ON TURRET. WAVY CLAPBOARDS BETWEEN STORIES. OCULUS IN GABLE. Wattawa came to Kewaunee shortly after his birth in 1860. At the age of 20 he became principal of a nearby high school and shortly afterwards was elected superintendant of Kewaunee County schools, a position he held for five years. At the same time he studied law and began practicing in 1887. He served two years as Kewaunee's mayor, had various business interests and, in 1893, became a deputy collector for the U. S. Customs Bureau. After John's death in 1904 his widow continued to own the house until 1915. |
