It is located at the northwest corner of Sixth and Walnut Streets. The front gable has on the first floor a paired double hung window with a segmental arch set in a recessed panel that features two semicircular brick arches with corbeling. Two second floor windows are similarly recessed below a segmental arch with corbeled brick. Eave returns accentuate the cornice. An enclosed frame porch projects from the junction of the ell, and gable frame addition is attached to the rear wall. |

Bibliographic References: | 1900 FEDERAL CENSUS. CIVIL WAR MUSTER ROLLS. 1990: Identified as the house of John A. and Francis Reed. River Falls Journal, 3 November 1898: "John Reed has completed a brick house on the corner of Sixth and Walnut street." RFJ, 5 January 1899: "Harry Hulbert will move to brick house recently built by John Reed." RFJ, 2 May 1901: Harry Hulbert bought of John Reed the two story brick house on corner of Walnut and Sixth Streets." RFJ, 10 October 1901: "Mrs. Sam Wales and daughters moved from farm to John Reed house on corner of Sixth and Walnut they bought." Tax rolls from 1906 indicate that the house was owned by the Wales sisters. The 1900 US Census identifies Reed as a carpenter and there is no evidence of the Reed family residing in the subject home. By 1910, the Reeds had moved to Devils Lake, North Dakota, where Reed continued to work as a contractor/house builder. |
