Additional Information: | This 1.5-story front-gable Greek Revival style house has a cobblestone foundation, cream brick walls, and metal roof. The primary facade consists of a pair of sash windows on the first floor and two sash windows in the gable-end, with a half-moon louvered vent in the peak. Bargeboard runs beneath the roofline. The window openings are segmented arch with soldier course lintels but the 2/1 modern synthetic frames are retrofitted. A modern one-story gabled bay with synthetic cladding and windows is set off the south elevation; the main entrance is set beneath a gabled portico. On the north elevation, patches of brickwork indicates altered fenestration. The gabled garage east of the house is a modern addition.
In the 1899 county plat book, this 40-acre parcel was owned and homesteaded by Jno. Vergens. In the 1919 county atlas, this 40-acre parcel was owned and homesteaded by Edward Vehlow. In the atlases, the homestead was depicted ~500 feet north, and not at this location. This farmstead is present in the 1937 aerial photo. The house retains its historic footprint. A barn and at least two outbuildings are nonextant. The garage and barn had not been constructed.
