Additional Information: | This historic farmstead is set on the north side of CR E west of Pleasant Valley Lane and consists of a house, gabled barn, small saltbox roof barn, and a dilapidated windmill.
This two-story Georgian style Gabled Ell house has cream brick walls and stone foundation. A modern enclosed sunporch spans the side-gable façade and obscures the entrance. Short sash windows fenestrate the wall above. In the front-gable facade, there is a first-floor tripartite window, a pair of sash windows upstairs, and a small round vent in the gable-end. The 1/1 sash windows are flanked by shutters. Bargeboard runs along the rooflines. A prominent brick chimney is set on the north elevation. There is a gabled bay addition off the back of the house, containing a two-story extension and a one-story attached two-car garage. This portion has a faux brick base and is clad in vinyl lap siding. The house is representative of a late nineteenth century residence in a restrained Greek Revival style in cream brick cladding that is typical for the local area.
In the 1899 county plat book, this 13-acre parcel was owned and homesteaded by H. Karberg. It was owned by William Karberg in 1919. This farmstead is present in the 1937 aerial photo, including the house, bank barn, and small barn. A pre-1937 barn was razed sometime before 1980. The house was enlarged ca. 1996.
